The Awka Council of Kingmakers in Anambra State,  on Sunday , reportedly dethrone the traditional ruler of Awka kingdom, Obi Gibson Nwosu over alleged violation of the community’s constitution. The kingmakers were said to have leveled 18 allegations against him, including accusing him of violating the Traditional Rulers Amended Constitution for Awka 1986, as well as the Code of Conduct which he reportedly signed on January 1, 2000 after he was crowned. Members of the council and kingmakers took the decision in liaison with the Ndichie of Awka, while addressing reporters yesterday. The statement was signed by Chief Emmanuel Okechukwu and Obuora Essell. The embattled monarch, however, dismissed the group, saying they have no such powers to remove him as they were not the authentic kingmakers of Awka. Our Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Controversy Trump

By Tonnie Iredia  Following an executive order on immigration made at the beginning of the year, by the new US President, Donald Trump, the country’s immigration service allegedly became more aggressive creating anxiety for some travellers. Initially, Nigerians believed they were not likely to be hurt by the plan not just because its enforcement was blocked by federal courts but because the revised order did not include Nigeria among the seven countries on the target list. Unfortunately, some Nigerians have reportedly been refused entry without reasons. The development should ordinarily have bothered the handlers of our foreign affairs, but that was not exactly the case. It became the lot of concerned Nigerians in the Diaspora to fill the gap. Two influential Nigerian community associations in the U.S. the Nigerian Lawyers Association and the Organisation for the Advancement of Nigeria (OAN) were the first to act.  Having found that some U.S. law enforcement officials had become over

List Of The Appointments Buhari Should Avoid

By Tonnie Iredia One of the submissions of this column last week was that Nigeria must stop leaving substance to pursue shadows. It was argued that if 25,000 police operatives posted to a state during an election cannot prevent hoodlums from snatching ballot boxes, why should anybody leave that substantive matter to discuss how the Inspector General of Police chooses to dress?                             Why should Nigerians be more concerned about whether the Immigration boss wears his organizational uniform or not when the booklet for the issuance of travelling passports to our citizens is always in short supply? Indeed, if our prisons have over the years remained congested, of what use is a prison boss that is ever well adorned in his official uniform? So, after our senators had successfully stopped customs from invading our homes under the guise of searching for improperly cleared vehicles, the invitation to the Comptroller General of Customs, Col Hameed Ali to compulsorily w

But former Minister of Health and Secretary of the Election Committee that conducted the election, Prof ABC Nwosu has dispelled insinuations in some quarters that the five governors of the south-east states, as well as governors of Rivers and Delta states had effectively hijacked Ohanaeze by imposing cronies as new leaders of the Igbo group. Nwosu said that rather than accuse the governors o

Trump then unleashed on Buzzfeed, another news media which alone published the 35-page memo behind the Russian allegations, saying “Buzzfeed which is a failing pile of garbage… will suffer the consequences”  And then, in an even more stunning episode,  Trump slammed CNN reporter Jim Acosta, who he also called out during the presser over their report on a two-page synopsis they claim was presented to Trump. With Trump looking to call on other reporters,  Jim Acosta yelled out, “Since you are attacking us, can you give us a question?” “Not you,” Trump said. “Your organization is terrible!” Acosta pressed on, “You are attacking our news organization, can you give us a chance to ask a question, sir
