Three deadly armed robbers have been shot dead in Port Harcourt during a brutal gun battle with the police. BREAKING News: Senate Orders NCC To Stop Planned Data Tariff Hike

The Senate has ordered the Nigerian Communications Commission to jettision its plan to hike data tariff in the country.   The Senate on Wednesday morning urged the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to halt the planned increase in data tariff by mobile telecommunications operators in the country.   It would be recalled that the NCC had directed mobile operators to initiate a new data tariff regime from December 1, 2016 in what is effectively a price increase.    This was contained in a letter to mobile operators dated November 1, the regulator stated that the interim floor price for data services was 0.90k/MB for big operators, and that “this rate will subsist pending the finalisation of the study on the determination of cost based pricing for retail broadband and data services in Nigeria. “In order to provide a level playing field for all operators in the industry, small operators and new entrants to acquire market share and operate profitably small

A popular Nigerian politician who duped the country of millions of naira has finally returned the sum of N134 million to the EFCC. Former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro   There are indications that a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, on Monday returned N30m to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Punch reports.   He had earlier in the year returned N104 million to the agency as part of his release plan. The latest refund brings the total amount of money he has returned to the EFCC to N134m. “Obanikoro came on Monday and presented a draft of about N30m. Initially we did not want to collect it because it is small compared to what he is supposed to have given us. Nigeria spent a whopping sum of $1 billion as subsidy on kerosene last year, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said. VP Yemi Osinbajo   While speaking at the Domestic Liquified Petroleum Gas Stakeholders’ Forum in Abuja on Tuesday, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo disclosed that Nigeria spent a whopping sum of $1billion as subsidy on kerosene last year.   According to The Punch, he said the massive dependence on kerosene and firewood by millions of households across the country made the Federal Government to spend such huge funds subsidising the commodity.   The vice president explained further that the low level consumption of LPG by Nigerians was a major reason for the high demand of kerosene and firewood.   He said, “The low LPG consumption in Nigeria has resulted in heavy dependence on kerosene and firewood as primary domestic cooking fuel. File photo   The Nigerian Naira on Tuesday sank to N480/$1 as fresh forex scarcity hit the parallel market.   The depreciating Naira also traded at N585 and N500 to the British pound and European Euro, respectively.   At the official side of the forex market, the local currency also depreciated against a resurgent US dollar, trading at 315.125 per dollar, according to the FMDQOTC trading quotes.     Speaking to a correspondent, some Bureau de change (BDC) operators blamed  the scarcity of forex on the inability of commercial banks to provide stipulated weekly allocations for BDCs.   Others blamed it on the Department of State Services (DSS) on forex dealers and increase demand, as the country inches towards the Christmas and new year festivities.   Source: TheCable News

A suspected fraudster has been arrested by the police for allegedly parading himself as the Inspector-General of Police on the Internet. Ekperebuike Akadonye   A 29-year-old suspected scammer, who allegedly paraded himself as the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on the Internet, has been arrested by the operatives of the Nigerian Police Force.   According to a report by Punch newspaper, the fraudster identified as Ekperebuike Akadonye, who was apprehended by the Inspector-General Special Intelligence Response Team, also allegedly defrauded a Saudi Arabia-based doctor, identified as Hassan Alkahallaf, to the tune of $10,000.   It was learnt that the suspect, got the victim into his trap when he introduced himself as the IG of Police and promised to help the doctor recover his loses.   He reportedly demanded $10,000 from Alkahallaf to facilitate the legal processes of the recovery and the victim was said to have paid the sum into his
