It’s still evening in in Nigeria, but in several parts of the world people have already welcomed 2016 with huge fireworks celebrations.
At Auckland’s Sky Tower in New Zealand crowds counted down the last seconds of 2015  at 1100 GMT amidst a fireworks display. In neighboring Australia, fireworks dazzled crowds at Sydney Harbour at midnight (13:00 GMT).

Very soon it will be Nigeria’s turn

Buhari mourns Anambra gas victims

Abuja –  President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep regret over the loss of lives following Thursday’s gas explosion at an industrial complex in Nnewi, Anambra. A statement issued in Abuja on Friday by the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said the president was greatly shaken and shocked by such large-scale loss of human lives in a single industrial accident. According to the statement, Buhari cast a gloom on the families of the victims “who were looking forward to a joyous Christmas celebration’’. The National Leader of the APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu is fighting on as he refuses to lose out in the power tussle between him and National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun. Tinubu's fight with Oyegun divides the APC (L-R Ahmed Bola Tinubu, Muhammadu Buhari, John Odigie-Oyegun)   There is chaos in the All Progressives Congress since the call for the removal of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, by the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
