Thousands Celebrate Prophet Muhammad Birthday In Bauchi Today

Hundreds of thousands of Muslims flooded streets of Bauchi on Thursday, December 24, to celebrate the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
The procession started its movement from Kobi football pitch and ambulated around the town.
The entire city was grounded due to inability of the vehicles to move around. Dozens of youth groups, Islamic schools had reportedly liaised with the Riayala committee that was set up by the government to ensure safety of the programme.

Part of the movement carried posters and portraits of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky in order to show their support and alacrity. They spoke out against the continued detention of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky who is being held by the Nigerian security forces.
Some of the Sunni sympathizers who took part in the procession said Zakzaky deserved emotional solidarity as he had lost six children, his house was allegedly demolished, and lots of his followers were massacred.
“I carry this placard to add my voice over the need to immediately release Sheik Zakzaky because the scholar isn’t a criminal,” said one sympathizer on condition of anonymity.
Some of the messages written on the posters were: “The truth can’t be suppressed with bullets”, “Zakzaky must be freed”, “FREE ZAKZAKY “.
