Tension In Gusau As 8 Polytechnic Students Are Burnt To Death Over ‘Blasphemy’

Reports reaching Gusau, the State capital, said the assailants broke into a house where the alleged culprit was hiding for safety, and set him ablaze along with his seven friends, completely razing the house to the ground.
No fewer than eight persons were on Monday burnt to death at Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Zamfara State, for an alleged blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad by one of the deceased.
The school is located in Talata Mafara, the headquarters of Talata Mafara Local Government Area.

Sources said Talata Mafara town had been overrun by the mob as they searched for the alleged blasphemer. 
The school authorities immediately closed down the institution, while the Zamfara State Police Command imposed an indefinite curfew on the town.
A statement in Gusau by the Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent Shehu Muhammad, said the curfew was aimed at restoring peace in the area.
