Reports reaching Gusau, the State capital, said the assailants broke into a house where the alleged culprit was hiding for safety, and set him ablaze along with his seven friends, completely razing the house to the ground. Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has appealed against last Wednesday’s ruling by an Abuja High Court in Kubwa, seeking a stay of execution his sack by the court. Justice Nwamaka Ogbonna of High Court of the Federal Capital Territory had  told Sheriff that he was illegally appointed as the chairman of the PDP and as such, should stop parading himself as the party’s national chairman henceforth. The suit seeking declaration on Sheriff’s status was instituted by a contestant to the position of the youth leader at yesterday’s convention, Danladi Ayuba, while the sole defendant was Sheriff. Goodluck Jonathan Goodluck Jonathan has praised the Nigerian Dream Team for their performance at the Rio Olympics even though they lost to Germany.   The ex president urged them to bounce back in their match against Honduras on Saturday, August 20.   Reacting to the loss, Goodluck, on his Facebook page said all hope is not lost.     He wrote: “The Dream Team gave it their best. A commendable performance. All is not lost. President Muhammadu Buhari has engaged in a closed door meeting with General Abdulsalami Abubakar. President Buhari is currently meeting with a former Head of State, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar (retd.), at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.   The meeting is reportedly being held behind closed doors.   Abubakar arrived for the meeting at about 12.35pm in a black Mercedes Benz car.   The purpose of the meeting is unknown at the time of filing this report.   More details later.
